A Facilitator's Guide to Developing OVC Program Sustainability and Transition Plans

Over the course of five years, the capacity of indigenous CRS partners and community programs has been enhanced. The current aim is that the well-planned transition of OVC programs to CRS partners will result in long-term sustainability. To increase program sustainability, it is critical that the transition is conceptualized and designed with input from all the key stakeholders. CRS has subsequently designed A Facilitator’s Guide to Developing OVC Program Sustainability and Transition Plans in order to facilitate the comprehensive and systematic review of existing structures and planning for strengthening of indigenous mechanisms for OVC.

Moving toward Complete Family Care: Integrating OVC Services with HIV Treatment in Haiti

CRS has been supporting a President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) antiretroviral therapy program at Bethel Clinic, operated by The Salvation Army, in the Nippes Department of Haiti since 2004. In 2006 the PEPFAR OVC program began discussing a joint OVC/ART program which would promote high quality health care for all children living with HIV-infected adults. The integration of these programs was intended to enhance CRS-Haiti’s ability to provide a continuum of care for people living with HIV and AIDS within a community setting. This fact sheet outlines the process and outcomes of integration of these programs in Haiti.

A tool for assessing changes in OVC wellbeing over time: longitudinal data from a child’s perspective

One challenge facing orphan and vulnerable children (OVC) programs is assessing program impact on a child’s overall wellbeing. OVC programming is often multisectoral in nature and difficult to assess, as it addresses so many facets of child wellbeing. This poster outlines an OVC Wellbeing Tool developed by Catholic Relief Services to assess self-reported child wellbeing by measuring 10 domains (food/nutrition, education shelter, economic opportunities, protection, mental health, family, health, spirituality, and community cohesion).
