Invite Them and They Will Come: Individualized Invitations Bring men to Antenatal Care 

  

Recent efforts to engage husbands antenatal care decisions have been met with limited success. The USAID and PEPFAR-funded Integrated (HIV Effect) Mitigation and Positive Action for Community Transformation (IMPACT) program in Malawi took a new approach – sending a letter from the antenatal care nurses requesting the husband’s presence at the next antenatal care appointment. The Expert Client Model: Peer-based Support to the Continuum of HIV Care in Malawi

  

Through the USAID-funded Integrated (HIV Effect) Mitigation and Positive Action for Community Transformation (IMPACT) program and with the support of a joint Ministry of Health ART/PMTCT Technical Working Group Task Force, CRS developed and implemented a peer-based task-shifting approach known as the Expert Client model. This report includes findings from a formal study on the approach as well as monitoring data, reports, success stories and other literature on the effectiveness of this approach over three years.

CRS and partners conducted a study as a part of the Integrated (HIV Effect) Mitigation and Positive Action for Community Transformation (IMPACT) program in Malawi, which revealed a transformation in the role of people living with HIV in participating communities. This brief outlines the results of the study, which showed that many people living with HIV in these communities are said to be among the healthiest and most successful and have become role models not only for others living with HIV, but also for their communities at large.

Niger Resilience Study 

   In 2012, the Sahel faced a severe food security crisis for the fourth time within a decade. Poor rains, rising food process and internal displacement caused by insecurity has placed almost 12 million people at risk for hunger. In May and June of 2012, CRS partnered with TANGO International to evaluate the severity of the situation and assess the efficacy of past projects on household resilience in the face of potential crisis. This paper outlines the methodology, results, and recommendations from this research.
